On November 11, The Farm at Prophetstown was proud to honor those who served our country in the armed forces by providing a free chili lunch. Winter is quickly blowing into Battle Ground, Indiana, but the frigid cold didn’t deter veterans from coming out.
Did you know that The Farm has an heirloom apple orchard? Or that The Farm sells farm raised ground beef? These two items married well in a dish called, “spiced apple chili.” The standard works of cheese, onions, and sour cream really set the chili off. We also enjoyed cornbread with butter and honey, pie, and coffee. It was the perfect meal for a chilly fall day.
Veterans came to our 1920s Farmhouse and enjoyed a leisurely time with our farm staff reminiscing about their experiences and sharing fellowship. The poem, “In Flanders Fields,” was read for the invocation. Overall, it was a great day for reflecting on the tremendous courage and sacrifice it takes to be in the American armed forces.
The Farm at Prophetstown wants to thank every man and woman who have served our nation. Whether in the reserves, on the front lines, in the kitchens, or in the mechanics shop, your service and dedication to our country is appreciated and respected. We at The Farm at Prophetstown wish a Happy Veterans Day to all veterans, active-duty military members, and future service men and women. Thank you for your service.
